The design of requests by adult L2 users with emergent literacy

Adopting the methods of multimodal conversation analysis, this study demonstrates that adult second language (L2) users with emergent literacy formulate requests as ‘complex Gestalts’ consisting prototypically deictic or depictive gestures combined gaze, situationally relevant material, and vocal linguistic resources. The data obtained for are from classroom interactions out-of-class service encounters were conducted part pedagogical tasks in context integration training L2 students literacy. analysis shows how co-constructed request sequences typically involve negotiation which co-participants support to understandable contribute progressivity interaction. findings an understanding practical multimodal, context-sensitive, collaborative actions underline importance perspective especially view
